Strategic Equality Plan Consultation

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Hywel Dda Health Board, together with local authorities in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, have come together to ask for your views in preparing their strategic equality plans.

These plans are important documents, setting out how the public organisations will make sure their actions are fair to all.  Being treated fairly and with respect is relevant to us all, and to our families and friends.

The partner agencies would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to express your views through this survey.

1. Are you responding as an...
2.
3. Please indicate which of the following your organisation is primarily interested in (for example, Age Concern would tick 'Age').

Please go to question 12

Questions 4 to 11 are within the survey so that we can find out what people with different characteristics think about the issues raised in the rest of the survey.  We can then make sure that all views are fairly taken into account.

There is no way that we will be able to trace your responses back to you as an individual.

4. What is your ethnic group?
5. What is your age group?
6. What is your gender?
7. Is your gender the same now as when assigned at birth?
8. What is your partnership status?

9. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 states that a person has a disability for the purposes of this Act if he/she has or has had 'a physical or mental impairment which has had a substantial and long term adverse effect on his/her ability to carry out normal day to day activities'.

Long term has been defined as meaning having lasted 12 months or is likely to last at least 12 months.

Do you consider yourself to be disabled?
10. Do you hold a religion or belief?

11. What is your sexual orientation?

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service

We are responsible for providing an Emergency Fire and Rescue Service across our geographical area.  We are an employer of fire fighters, fire officers and support staff from a variety of different professions.

Please help us to maintain fairness in all that we do by answering the following questions.

12.
Legislative Fire Safety
This involves inspections of public buildings and businesses to make sure that they are compliant with fire safety law. The department also investigates when a fire has taken place to find out the reason for the fire occurring and then establish what actions need to be taken e.g. prosecutions.
13. Do you think that people carrying out these roles need to have been working as fire fighters before doing this job?
14. Do people carrying out these roles, from what ever background, need to wear uniforms in the course of their work?
15. Have you, your friends or community ever had experience of 'arson' (deliberately setting fire to things)?
16. If yes, was this motivated by discrimination?
