Allowances
Councillors' claims for travelling and subsistence allowances are normally submitted within one month of the meeting to which the allowance refers in order to maintain accurate financial profiles and are normally paid the following month ( i.e. claim for meetings attended in April normally paid in May ). Claims submitted after the closing date for processing can roll over to the following month(s) for payment in those instances where it has not been possible to verIfy claims prior to the date for submission for payment, those claims are held back until verIfication is received and then submitted for payment i.e. claim made for attendance at a meeting /conference in April and verIfication not received until June will be paid in the month of July. Also some Councillors may not claim on a regular monthly basis and claims may sometimes be submitted for attendance at more than one month's meetings (i.e. payment made in June may be in respect of meetings attended in both May and April)
Meetings
(It should be noted that the meetings included in the members’ allowances claim Forms are Formal meetings of the Council and other meetings referred to within the Council’s Members’ Allowances Scheme as "approved duties". They do not include the large number of unofficial duties and meetings arranged and attended by members with officers of the authority and those arranged and held by members with people and organisations within their local communities for which they do not claim allowances.)
